Thrissur: A woman had a miraculous escape after she was caught in between the legs of an  elephant  which ran amok during a temple festival at Kumaranchira near Nandipulam here on Thursday. Shobana of Mupliyam suffered  minor injuries and has been admitted to the Puthukkad Government Hospital.

According to police, the elephant, Irinjalakuda Kannan, turned violent when the mahouts were adorning it with caparisons before the procession at 9.30 a.m.

The jumbo  ran amok on the temple premise creating panic for about  an hour. When the crowd that thronged the place also ran helter-skelter, Shobana fell on the ground and was trapped in between the legs of the tusker. However, she managed to escape when the elephant turned against others. Later, it  was brought under control by the mahouts, said police.

The Heritage Animal Task Force demanded  action against the temple authorities and the mahouts for taking out  the elephant, which was paraded in another procession a few hours ago, without giving adequate rest.
