Mohan Kumar guilty of third murder
Mohan Kumar administered cyanide to all his victims after sexual intercourse.
Mangalore: The fourth Additional District and Sessions Court on Wednesday found serial killer Mohan Kumar guilty of murdering Sunanda, a resident of Sullia. This is the third case in which he has been found guilty. On Tuesday the court convicted him for murdering Anitha and Leelavathi.
Mohan Kumar is accused of luring and killing 20 women by administering cyanide to them. His modus operandi has made infamous as ‘cyanide’ Mohan.
The serial killer allegedly administered cyanide to his victims after sexual intercourse. He would tell them that it was a medicine to prevent pregnancy. He would also rob the victims’ ornaments before fleeing.
On Tuesday, Judge B.K. Naik found Mohan guilty of murdering Anitha of Barimaru and Leelavathi of Vamadapadau.
Anitha was his last victim and this resulted in Mohan’s arrest on October 21, 2009.
The killer took Anitha to Hassan on June 17, 2009 and stayed in a lodge.
The next day he administered cyanide and her body was later found in the toilet of a KSRTC bus stand.
Similarly, he murdered Leelavathi in September 2005 at KSRTC bus stand in Mysore.
The hearing on the quantum of punishment will be held on Thursday.
Cheyabba Beary, the special public prosecutor said that in both the cases Mohan Kumar was proved guilty.
In Anitha’s case the lodge staff, who had seen Anitha with Mohan, gave their statement before the court.
The handwriting expert also concluded that the entry and the signature in the hotel register belonged to Mohan.
Anitha’s gold ornaments were recovered from two finance companies. In Leelavathi’s case the police seized her her jewellery from Mohan’s second wife’s house at Belma.
In Wednesday’s verdict, the court found Mohan guilty of murdering Sunanda, who went to Mysore with him on February 11, 2008. The killer’s modus operandi was similar to earlier cases.
Mohan and Sunanda rented a room in Mysore. They went out and he poisoned her.
She was later found dead at KSRTC bus stand in Mysore. He robbed her jewellery and Rs 25,000 in cash from Sunanda. The trial against Mohan began on November 21, 2011.
