Check points soon to curb sand mafia

Revenue officials along with police will be involved in vigilance operations at six different check points.

Karimnagar: Revenue officials along with police will be involved in vigilance operations at six different check points in the district from January 1 in order to curb growing illegal transportation of sand.

A decision to this effect has been taken in a meeting convened by in-charge collector H. Arun Kumar   with the revenue officials and district superintendent of police V. Shiva Kumar here on Monday.

Arun Kumar directed the revenue officials to set up six check   points at Shanigaram on Hyderabad-Karimnagar highway, Baswapur on  Husnabad-Siddipet road, Elkaturthi and Jillella crossroads on   Karimnagar-Warangal road, Kataram crossroads on Mahadevpur-Bhup-alpalli  road, Peddam temple on Gambhir-raopet-Kamareddy road as part of   measures to control the sand mafia. 
He further directed the officials and police to discharge duties on 24x7 basis at the check points to prevent smuggling.

The in-charge collector ordered revenue  divisional officers to submit report on availability of sand at 35  reaches, which were identified for the needs of the district.
