CMC takeover would increase seats to 1,100

With the government decision to take over the Cochin Cooperative Medical College.

Thiruvananthapuram: With the government decision to take over the Cochin Cooperative Medical College,  the  seats in government medical colleges in the state have gone  up to 1,100. The number of government medical colleges has  also gone up to six.

The students getting admission to CMC from the next academic year onwards have to pay only the government fees.

Till now, 35 per cent of seats in CMC were filled under management quota by collecting Rs 6 lakh as fees whereas 15 per cent were  filled under NRI quota by collecting Rs 11 lakh.

However, the fees for government seats was Rs 25,000.
