In college, Salish yodelled away like Kishore Kumar in the canteen. What was considered a happy nuisance at that time paved the way to a career as a recognised singer who can sing in a voice similar to the legendary singer. Just like his idol, Salish Syam from Kozhikode has no formal training in music.

In the last 15 years, Salish has performed in more than 2,000 shows all over the country and abroad, including the Middle-East and USA.

Salish is a familiar face having participated in many singing reality shows.

“Yodelling is a style created by Kishore da, which I used to play on my brother's guitar. Later, I started adopting that style in my singing," says Salish, who started his career by singing the song "Phoolon Ka Taaron Ka..." from Dev Anand's film 'Hare Rama Hare Krishna'.

Salish is not only a talented singer but a dancer too.

Having sung around 500 songs of Kishore da, he says. “I have sung many of Kishore da's song, but I have not attempted any difficult song of his as I do not want to seem disrespectful to the legend's talent," he says.

Salish got an opportunity to sing for a movie which unfortunately did not release, but it hasn't dampened his spirits. Kishore da's contribution is slowly fading away from the minds of people.

In a bid to revive the contribution of Kishore da in public memory, Salish is planning to sing a select 100 songs from the legendary singer's collection, singing continuously for 12 hours without a break except for the change of orchestra.

“Through my musical concert I want to revive his songs in the hearts of music lovers in the city," he muses.

The musical concert 'Gaatha Rahe' will be held on December 13 from 9 am to 10 pm at the Town Hall.
