Jaya slams LPG price hike
Jayalalithaa has slammed the Centre for increasing the price of LPG by Rs 3.46 apparently.
Chennai: Chief minister Jayalalithaa has slammed the Centre for increasing the price of LPG by Rs 3.46 apparently in retaliation for the votes cast by people against Congress in four state Assembly elections.
Demanding withdrawal of the price hike, Jayalalithaa said, the Centre’s action in hiking LPG price is seen as a tit-for-tat action against the people who voted out Congress in the four states.
“The common man has already been victimised with the increase in price of petroleum products and the hike in LPG price has come as a blow to the people and is condemnable,” she said on Tuesday.
The CM said that it was unfair on the part of the Centre to hike the price without taking any concrete steps to curtail skyrocketing price rise and contain inflation. This will impose additional unnecessary burden on the poor and middle class, she added.
Recalling how her government had slashed value added tax (VAT) on LPG despite the financial crunch faced by the state, Jayalalithaa said because of this gesture the state exchequer had incurred a loss to the tune of Rs 120 crore an year.
