Bangalore: Bad roads are causing Indiranagar, one of the posher localities in Bangalore, to rapidly lose its sheen. 100 Feet Road in Indiranagar is in really bad shape in many places, especially where the crossroads intersect with the main road.

The worst spots are where 14th Main and 15th stretch is crying out for repair. Residents and shop owners say it is four to five months now that the road is in this deplorable condition.

Residential and trade associations have spoken to the corporation authorities many times  to undertake repairs, but to no effect. This main road gets jam-packed during peak hours  as vehicles using the road are forced to move at snail’s pace.

Things are worse when a prominent college on 14th Main Road commences and ends. A large number of vehicles take this route which links the Old Madras Road, Old Airport road, Domlur and the intermediate ring road by a flyover near the area.

Residents of HAL 2nd stage complain that the roads are not scientifically repaired. After  they complain to the authorities, a random tractor shows up, dumps mud into the pot holes and levels them temporarily. It takes just a couple of days for the road to revert to  its old state.

Local people say accidents occur regularly. A common cause of the accidents is a vehicle having to break suddenly when it hits a bad patch and the one behind it ramming into it.

Traffic jams during peak hours are common. And it’s not the traffic police, but the valet parking personnel of nearby complexes who manage the traffic there.

Many commercial establishments complain that their wealthy customers don’t want to risk their expensive cars on the atrocious roads here and have stopped coming, which  affects their business.

Even two-wheelers don’t want to risk driving on the pitted roads  and drive on the pedestrian walks and parking pavements instead. To make matters  worse, there is a U-turn also on this bad stretch.

When vehicles try to take a turn, the  traffic comes to a standstill for quite some time.
