Murali sees poll setbacks, wants Thiruvanchoor out

Thiruvananthapuram: Home minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan continued to face brickbats from his own party and an ally of the UDF over the grave violation of jail rules by the accused in the T.P. Chandrasekharan murder case and  for the controversial statements made by ousted jail DGP Alexander Jacob.

KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala targeted Jacob saying the officer was speaking like the CPM spokesman.  Terming his statement on Thursday as unfortunate, Chennithala said  he  should be more careful in passing judgment.  The resentment of partymen has been conveyed to Radhakrishnan, he added.

K. Muraleedharan, MLA, said Radhakrishnan  must atone for his department’s lapses and step down. “Home department has turned into an Augean stable and it would prove costly for the Congress during the Lok Sabha poll,’’ he said.

Muslim League national general secretary E.T. Mohammad Basheer said the home department had failed to notice the violation of  jail rules by the accused in the TPC  murder case. The episode had dented the image of the department, he said and added that the Muslim League would take up the matter at the UDF meeting. He said the infighting in the ruling party could lead to setback for the UDF.
