Bangalore: It has been a week since Corporation Bank manager Jyothi Udaykumar was attacked at the bank’s ATM on Mission Road in NR Square, but the city police are yet to make any breakthrough in the case.

The city police and Anantapur district police have jointly launched a hunt for the accused, who has also allegedly killed a woman in Dharmavaram in Anantapur district and drawn money using her ATM cards.

The state police are trying to establish the identity of the accused through local intelligence. The two police forces are checking for other similar cases where lonely women were targeted inside ATM kiosks.

“We are hopeful of identifying the accused within a few days. He is now aware that the police are after him and is surely shifting places. Since his modus operandi is to target women at ATM kiosks, all the bank authorities in Anantapura have been asked to be on high vigil and to inform the police in case they spot him,” a senior police officer said.

Jyothi Udaykumar was attacked early on November 19 morning when she had gone to the ATM to withdraw money to go shopping for her adopted daughter’s birthday. After she refused to heed to the ATM butcher, she was viciously attacked. The victim is undergoing treatment at the BGS Global Hospital in Kengeri.

Dr N.K. Venkataramana, Chief Neurosurgeon and Vice-Chairman, BGS Global Hospitals who is treating Udaykumar, said, “Her pain has reduced significantly and she has been put on physiotherapy sessions. She is able to sit up. The right portion of her body is still paralysed, but the sensation has improved.”
