Hyderabad: Residents of My Home Jewel apartments, Madinaguda, have complained against the managing committee of the Owners Welfare Association for misusing the corpus funds to the tune of lakhs of rupees.

The residents said that approaching the police had not been of any use. The complex, which has 2,116 flats, was constructed about three years ago by My Home Constructions Private Limited and since then, there has been the same managing committee.

For the past two years, many representations have been submitted by the flat owners to conduct elections to elect new members, but the committee has not paid any heed, allege the residents.

“We had asked them to organise the annual general body meeting, which they did not. Apart from that, we had also requested for regular meets to discuss issues and problems pertaining to the apartments. We have been requesting them for long to conduct elections, which they oppose,” said Nanda Kishore, a resident.

The total corpus fund with the committee is reportedly about Rs 30 crore apart from which it gets Rs 60 to 70 lakh per month as maintenance. Residents allege that  funds are misused.

“About Rs 8 lakh was approved to be spent on a boom barrier, but close to Rs 20 lakh was spent. When the residents went to the supplier and got details, there was a major difference. When we questioned the committee on this and sought a probe, they refused” Kishore added.

The residents approached the officials of registrar of societies, who said that they should approach the courts. The residents also lodged a complaint with the cops, but nothing came out of it. They then went ahead and filed court cases and currently five are being fought, including a criminal case.

Another senior citizen from the complex said that about 10 days ago, about six members of the committee attacked three residents — Ramaswamy, a senior citizen, Vikram Srivastava and Avadhuth Kulkarni.

“They were discussing about organising a rally against the committee. However, when Ramaswamy tried to film their acts, they grabbed and threw the phone and physically assaulted him,” said Kondanda Ramaiah, a resident.

“Based on their complaint, we registered a case and are investigating. The facts are being verified, after which action will be initiated,” said A. Sudheer Kumar, inspector, Miyapur.
