Lucknow: A 18-year-old girls was allegedly raped by the driver of the vehicle in which she was returning home after attending a laptop distribution programme late on Monday night near Faizabad.

The locals are now blaming a senior UP minister for the rape. The victim, along with other girls had gone to attend the function for laptop distribution but the event but got delayed as the social welfare minister Avadhesh Prasad, the chief guest at the function, arrived at 10 p.m. instead of the scheduled 3 pm.

When the girls got their laptops around 10.30 pm, they rushed back home in the jeep which had taken them to the function.  The jeep owner, Sunil Kumar Singh dropped other girls and later took the vehicle to an isolated place and raped the girl.

He then dumped her outside the village and fled. The girl narrated the harrowing tale to her family who approached the police.

“On the basis of girl's complaint, the accused has been arrested and the victim has been sent for medical examination,” police said.
