Power house blast: Sabotage ruled out

Kottayam: Two expert teams of the  Kerala State Electricity Board  on Monday inspected the Moolamattom power house to find  the cause of the recent explosions.

The experts said  the maintenance work in the dam will be completed before December 31, and the power house will start working normally. The team discounted the possibility of  sabotage at the  power house.

The explosion of the circuit breaker on November 3 was due to its ageing while flashing of the potential transformer on the 220-KV Idukki-Madakathara section on November 7 was caused by  lightning, M.. Mohammad Ali Rawther, KSEB member, (Distribution and Generation –Electrical),  told reporters.

Currently,  five of the six generators are  in operation. One of them which was  stopped following the November 3 incident will be operational  in a  few days, he said.

One team was led  by Rawther  and the other  by vigilance DySP Aji. Their reports  will be submitted to the government, sources said.
