Hyderabad: TD and BJP leaders of the coastal districts have decided to move the state and the Centre to notify cockfights as a traditional game during Sankranti, as was done in the case of Jallikattu in Tamil Nadu.
BJP leader K. Raghu Rama Krishna Raju told this correspondent “We are negotiating with the TD representatives to carry out the proposal to declare the game as a part of our culture. This year we may not succeed, but we are sure we will convince the governments and get a favourable decision by next year as 80 per cent of people of our area want it.”
In the Jallikattu case, the Centre issued an ordinance because of a ban on the sport by the Supreme Court. With regard to cockfights there was no such ban, he added.
He said they had prepared the ground to organise the sport this year.
