Britain to get coldest winter in 58 years
London: The UK is braced for severe weather this weekend as the coldest winter in 58 years is expected to hit the country. Forecasters predict gales, plummeting temperatures and even snow, as the freak weather threatens to cause travel chaos. Experts say the Arctic Freeze will be driven in from Siberia and the North Pole.
Recent weeks have seen milder weather which has brought welcome respite to areas battered by Storm Frank. However the Arctic Freeze is set to bring flooding, freezing temperatures and difficult conditions again.
Some of the Arctic Freeze’s first effects were felt on Thursday as severe flooding caused havoc in Scotland after the River Don burst its banks. Two severe warnings for “danger to life” have been put in place in Scotland.
