Congress, BJP on same page; complain to Governor against TRS

Congress leaders, led by N. Uttam Kumar Reddy and K. Jana Reddy, met the Governor.

Hyderabad: The Congress and the BJP on Friday complained to Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan against the “blatant flouting of norms” by the TS government in the run-up to the GHMC polls and indiscriminate erection of TRS hoardings across the city.

Congress leaders, led by N. Uttam Kumar Reddy and K. Jana Reddy, met the Governor and told him that the TRS government was indulging in gross misuse of power and requested him to direct the GHMC to remove the hoardings and order a probe on who funded the flexiboards.

They said that the TRS government was flouting every rule to win the polls.

“Lakhs of voters’ names have been deleted from the electoral rolls. Delimitation of wards was done for political gain and reservations made indiscriminately,” they alleged.

Mr Uttam Kumar Reddy said GHMC was the biggest local body in TS with a Rs 5,000 crore Budget. “We told the Governor that the TRS was adopting illegal methods to capture the GHMC,” he said.

Meanwhile, another delegation, led by BJP Floor leader K. Laxman, met Mr Narasimhan and made a similar complaint against the TRS government.

The BJP leaders requested the Governor not to approve any ordinance brought in by TRS government pertaining to GHMC polls and ensure that polls were held as per rules.

“The state government is getting directly involved in the GHMC elections. We requested the Governor to see that elections are conducted in a free and fair manner and in tune with existing rules,” Dr Laxman said.

TS BJP president G. Kishan Reddy questioned the rationale behind reservation of wards in the GHMC.

“Though the High Court has pulled up the government, it went ahead and announced the poll schedule. Notwithstanding all the conspiracies, the BJP-TD combine will win the polls,” he asserted.
