Chennai: Two students, three others held for murder
Five from Jafferkhanpet kill orphanage owner for money, car.
Chennai: Two class 9 students and three others from Jafferkhanpet were arrested by Kancheepuram police in connection with the murder for gain of a 56-year-old man who was running an orphanage at Thirukazhukundram.
The teenaged students were inmates of his private shelter home, where he was murdered on December 30. The minor offenders and three others bundled the body of Charles Binny of MGR Nagar into his car, dumped it on roadside near Pazhaveli near Chengalpattu before setting it afire.
Police identified the three others as Lenin, 30, Kannadasan, 35 and Venkitesh. According to police, earlier in the day Charles had sought the help of the students who were at their homes in Jafferkhanpet to pack articles for distribution among flood victims of Kancheepuram.
The two students had told him that the other three also could help them so that the work could be completed early. Accordingly, Charles along with the two students and Lenin travelled in a four-wheeler while the other two followed them on a bike to the shelter home.
On December 30 night, the teens along with Lenin smothered their victim with pillow while he was sleeping. Later, they sought the help of the other two to shift the body to the vehicle.They gang took all cash and gold and drove away in the vehicle before dumping the body at Pazhaveli.
Cops detected the body a day after. Though the body was burnt beyond recognition, the victim’s wife Jayasree identified it by a steel piece inserted in his forearm after an accident. After collecting other details, the police started looking for the five who accompanied Charles to Thirukazhukundram on the fateful day.
All the five were absconding; but investigators traced the car belonging to Charles. It had been given on a lease of Rs 50,000 by the gang. During the last four days, cops tracked all the five and recovered Rs 7 lakh worth gold, cash and vehicle. They were arrested.
