Broadband network set to connect rural houses

Broadband connectivity with at least 2 MBPS speed will be provided to each household.
Hyderabad: Bharat Broadband Network, a joint project between the Centre and Telangana government, will ensure that tariff rates of private Internet Service Providers (ISPs) come down. Broadband connectivity with at least 2 MBPS speed will be provided to each household in nearly 25,000 rural habitations across the state through fibre optic cables laid alongside pipelines of the Telangana drinking water project Mission Bhagiratha.
The Union government had announced the ‘Bharat Ne’ project which provides Internet facility to rural areas. Telangana was the first state to submit a detailed project report under Mission Bhagiratha. Under Bharat Net, the Union government will sanction 90 per cent funds on the Detailed Project Report (DPR) and 10 per cent will be borne by the state government. The guidelines will be prepared by the end of January.
Information Technology secretary Mr Jayesh Ranjan told DC that simultaneous laying of fibre cables along with Mission Bhagiratha pipelines would reduce the expenditure by 70 per cent. “As we will save 70 per cent of the total estimated amount, we will spend it on free installation, supplying modems and cat-5 cable to the subscribers’ end,” he said.

options to subscribers:
Although there is stiff competition between Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in the state, there are big differences in standards and speeds offered. ISPs like ACT-Fiber focuses on data usage whereas Hathaway focuses on speed rather than usage. Small ISPs are concentrating on unlimited packages instead of data speed.
The tariffs offered by the same service provider also varies from one city to another based on local taxes and other reasons including rentals and bandwidth availability.
Hathaway Broadband is providing 50MBPS speed at Rs 499 to Rs 1099 per month. The rentals vary according to download limit at 10GB, 20 GB etc.
It is, however, providing very low bandwidth to Visakhapatnam. It is providing 3 MBPS at Rs 800 per month, 1.5 MBPS for Rs 600 and 600 KBPS for Rs 475.
Other local networks are offering services based on unlimited download facility with 1, 2, 3 and 4 MBPS for Rs 450, Rs 500, Rs 700 and Rs 800. IT department sources said that the government?s broadband services would provide unlimited download facility with uniform tariff across the state. ?There will be uniformity in tariff and services across the state. The same tariff will be implemented in all the 10 districts,? said sources.
