Sasi is back with 'Pichaikaran' starring Vijay Antony

The script is inspired by a real-life incident that he had read in a magazine.

It has been two years since the release of his last film Ainthu Ainthu starring Bharath — and now filmmaker Sasi is back, directing an unconventional hero like Vijay Antony in his yet-to-be released Pichaikaran. “I wanted to try something different apart from the usual hero-based films and then I thought, ‘why not Vijay?’ I was clear that I should approach somebody, who’s not a ‘mass’ hero. When I approached Vijay for the same, he was quite happy to do it,” he tells us.

Why does he take months, even years to make films? Sasi responds, “I am an instinctive filmmaker. My priority is my convenience. Like any other director, I also feel that I should improve my craft and my audience should grow. There is nothing wrong in it. Hence, it takes solid time for me to figure out which script appeals to the audience.”

What’s Pichaikaran all about? “The script is inspired by a short story that I had read in a magazine a while ago and is based on a real-life incident. I had the basic structure in my mind, and then I improvised as the project progressed. Seeing the title, we would think that the story revolves around a beggar; but actually about a millionaire. It was Vijay who suggested the title to me even though I thought it sounded negative in the beginning. Somehow he convinced me,” Sasi reveals. And what’s next? “I am working on a script and talks are on with a big hero,” he smiles and quickly adds that he wanted to make an ‘animal film’, in his own way. “Maybe, a film that breaks all those conventional barriers and more? Also I wanted to work with Suriya. I think he’s a fabulous performer,” he concludes.
