India tour of Australia: The tale of three 74s and 3-0-13-2

Numbers play a role in India’s practice match against Western Australia on Friday.

Perth: Number games, often a sumptuous meal for statisticians, reached a new high after India beat Western Australia XI in the tour match by 74 runs here on Friday.

Seventy four became the magic number here as India batsman Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli slammed 74 with the bat that took the score to 192/4 at the end of 20 overs.

While Dhawan took 46 balls with eight boundaries and three sixes to reach the score, Kohli did it off 44 balls with seven boundaries and three maximums.

That was not all, Travis Birt – the Western Australia opener – also scored an unbeaten 74 off 60 balls.

In the end, India won by 74 runs as well.

Next to 74, could be the statistics shared by Indian bowlers Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja. Both picked up two wickets conceding 13 runs in three overs.

Brief scores: India 192/4 (S Dhawan 74, V Kohli 74; R Duffield 1/21) in 20 overs beat Western Australia XI 118/6 in 20 overs (T Birt 60*; R Jadeja 2/13, A Patel 2/13) by 74 runs
