Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s yet another pet scheme, tap water to every house, will be launched on April 30.
“Our government’s top priority is to provide drinking water in the state. We will ensure a tap for every house. The scheme will be launched from April 30,” Mr Rao said, speaking after laying the foundation stone for the Sri Konda Laxman Telangana State Horticultural University, Centre for Excellence for Fruits and Telangana Forest College and Research Institute on 1,300 acres, along with Union agriculture minister Radha Mohan Singh at Mulugu in Medak district here on Thursday.
The Centre had sanctioned the new horticultural university following bifurcation of the State.
Mr Singh promised all support from the Central government to the university and institutes. He underlined the need for giving a fillip to research for benefit of the people.
Mr Chandrasekhar Rao promised to follow the advice of the Union minister and requested him to provide funds for construction of godowns in the state in view of acute shortage of storage space for food grains and other commodities.
“With new Horticulture University in Telangana, apart from academic, research, extension and academic protocols will ensure growth in the horticulture sector,” he explained.
The targeted area under horticulture for the next five years (2018-19) action plan is 14.48 lakh ha (33 per cent growth) with estimated production of 152.31 lakh MTs, Mr Chandrasekhar Rao said.
The anticipated uncultivable areas (fallows) to an extent of 3.76 lakh ha (approximately) will be brought into cultivation of horticultural crops in state by 2020, the Chief Minister added.
Further, the state government has launched a massive campaign to promote poly-house farming in the state in 1,000 ha on 75 per cent subsidy at the rate of Rs 29.52 lakh per acre limited to three acres per beneficiary with a financial outlay of Rs 250 crore.
The forest college will offer BSc Forestry (4 year after inter), MSc Forestry and Ph.D. Forestry courses.
