TD fears turncoats, BJP stands to gain

There is no guarantee that elected corporators will not switch sides after polls.
Hyderabad: The bitter experience of the recent MLC elections, where some candidates withdrew in favour of the ruling TRS party, has left the TD-BJP combine worried as it prepares for the GHMC polls.
Sources said that Telugu Desam supremo N. Chandrababu Naidu was more than willing to give BJP a big chunk of seats to avoid elected TD corporators jumping over to the TRS after elections.
The BJP is likely to contest 80-odd of the 150 divisions and the TD, the rest. It is assumed that chances of corporators elected on a BJP ticket switching over to the TRS after the election is less compared to those of the TD.
“At one of the TD-BJP meetings on GHMC polls, Mr Naidu indicated that he was willing to give more seats to BJP. There is no guarantee that elected corporators will not switch sides after polls. The TRS leadership is using every trick at its disposal to lure leaders and elected leaders,” a senior BJP leader told this correspondent.
He said, “BJP will certainly contest more seats that the TD. The combine can win at least 60 seats together.”
Though a formal announcement on seat sharing is awaited, it is learnt that the combine has by and large identified the divisions each party will contest.
The BJP will contest a majority of seats in the Old City and some pockets of the new city, while the TD would focus on divisions with more Seemandhra population like Kukatpally, Qutbullahpur, Serilingampally, Vanasthalipuram, Malkajgiri etc, it is
“We will win a majority of the seats in the GHMC. The TRS made tall promises but failed to keep them. Hyderabad streets are full of garbage, CM’s dream 2BHK houses and a job for one in every family are only on flexis,” said G. Kishan Reddy, TS BJP president.
