Telangana: Industrial waste troubles communities

Officials said that the open areas in the industrial area were being fenced under the project to prevent dumping.
Hyderabad: Waste from the Katedan Industrial Area has become a big concern for the neighboring communities and Telangana Pollution Control Board has been asked to manage waste by fixing responsibility.
Complaints have been filed against three industries – Ramacharan Oil industries, Ravi Foods and Nisha Foods.
“A representative of the neighbourhood community informed that solid waste is being dumped in the Katedan Industrial Estate area because of which residents are facing health problems. Also, waste water is being discharged from the three industries,” revealed the minutes of a recent meet of the Pollution Board with other departments and Save Our Urban Lakes.
Officials said that the open areas in the industrial area were being fenced under the project to prevent dumping. They added that the waste that was being dumped in the area would be shifted to the landfill.
Officials added that several polluting units had been closed or shifted from Katedan, which had become densely populated.
