Probe ordered on Kiran mobile row
Kiran had been operating a racket from the Cherlapally Central Prison with a DSP’s personal mobile phone.
Hyderabad: Prisons’ DIG A. Narasimha on Wednesday informed that he had requested the cyber crime police to probe the issue of undertrial Bhanu Kiran, a prime accused in Maddela-chervu Suri murder case, having access to the mobile phone of a deputy superintendent of prisons (DSP) last year.
A report was published in DC stating that Kiran had been operating a racket from the Cherlapally Central Prison with a DSP’s personal mobile phone.
Responding to the news report, the DIG told this newspaper that an inquiry had been initiated. “Usually, we request other agencies to enquire into such allegations. We have written to the cyber crime police to verify whether the mobile phone which was being used by Bhanu Kiran belonged to the deputy superintendent of prisons or not. We have also requested the cyber crime department to verify the call data record (CDR) of another accused, Burjukadi Vishnu,” he said.
Cherlapally jail superintendent denies
Superintendent of Cherlapally Central Prison K. Venkateswar Reddy denied the news report and said that it was baseless.
“No prisoner has access to personal or official mobile phone of any officer. This allegation has been made without enquiring into the facts and figures and it is only an act of tarnishing the image of an important government organisation,” he said.
He said prison officials conduct daily searches for mobile phones in all the barracks. A special team from the headquarters also makes surprise searches. No cellphones were found with prisoners, he said.
