Kerala government to give Rs 50 lakh to martyr’s family

42 lakh families are expected to benefit from the scheme.

Thiruvananthapuram: The state government on Wednesday announced a financial aid of Rs 50 lakh for the family of Lt-Colonel Niranjan E. Kumar who was killed during the anti-terrorist operations at the IAF base in Pathankot.

The decision was taken at the Cabinet meeting which also decided to offer a job to Niranjan’s wife, Dr K. G. Radhika, in the state government service and to bear the educational expenses of their daughter, Vismaya.

The 34-year-old National Security Guard (NSG) officer was killed during an operation against terrorists who were holed up in the IAF base. His mortal remains were taken to Bengaluru on Monday and later brought to his ancestral house in Elambulassery in Palakkad.

Total health programme
The Cabinet also decided to launch a total health programme. All families whose income is below Rs 3 lakh will come within the purview of this scheme.

The scheme is aimed at bringing all financial assistance schemes under one umbrella. About 42 lakh families are expected to benefit from the scheme.
