CM Oommen Chandy dares CPM to declare its stand on liquor policy
Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Wednesday dared the CPM leadership to declare its stand on the UDF government’s liquor policy.
“The CPM is running with the hare and hunting with the hound on the issue. This is not right,” the chief minister said while replying to questions on the liquor policy during the Cabinet briefing.
He said those finding fault with the liquor policy should come out with their stand on the issue. “I am sure people of the state will see through their ploy. The Opposition keeps saying we will think about it, we will make it clear later,” Chandy said.
The CPM had all along alleged that the liquor policy was brought in haste because of the differences between him and KPCC president V. M. Sudheeran. The apex court verdict had ratified the government's policy, he added.
‘Rajan Babu’s action can’t be justified’
The chief minister said that JSS leader Rajan Babu’s liaisoning with SNDP general secretary Vellapally Natesan cannot be justified in any manner.
At the Cabinet briefing here, Chandy said everyone believed that Rajan Babu had committed a grave lapse. He said a decision on the issue would be taken after consulting the UDF partners.
Rajan Babu had come under scathing attack from KPCC president V. M. Sudheeran and UDF partners for helping Vellapally Natesan to formulate his party Bharat Dharma Jana Sena’s constitution and for continuing as a legal advisor to the SNDP leader.
