AIADMK feat rallies set tone for poll campaign

The cadres are now persuading house owners to allow them to put up party graffiti at vantage points.

Chennai: The ruling AIADMK on Wednesday continued its poll stride by announcing “achievement rallies” across Tamil Nadu ahead of Assembly elections scheduled in May. In a statement, party general secretary, J. Jayalalithaa announced a marathon 17 series of meetings for party office-bearers. She directed the district secretaries to co ordinate with party IT wing to work on social media campaigns and evolve strategies to target audiences active in websites and mobile applications. Listing out the schedule that starts on January 9 from Tiruvallur, she said the final meeting of IT wing will conclude in South Chennai on January 26.

While the party’s Amma Peravai is to focus on the success of the AIADMK government and its schemes, the party IT wing will be working on strategies and campaign modules through social media, AIADMK sources said.

Meanwhile, the party has started the first phase of public meetings and street corner campaigns to reach out mass audience. The party workers have also started collecting data on government’s development schemes and visionary plans. Corporation councillors and ward level functionaries are now placing orders for posters and banners screaming out state schemes.

In Chennai, AIADMK presidium chairman E. Madusudanan kickstarted the rallies and in Karur a similar event was flagged off by Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker M.Thambidurai. The party had also started reserving walls for graffiti. The cadres are now persuading house owners to allow them to put up party graffiti at vantage points.
