Panchayat union chief hacked to death by youths in his office
Chennai: A 38-year-old panchayat union chief of Abullapuram in Tiruvannamalai was hacked to death in his office at Punjai Arasar Thangal in Kancheepuram on Wednesday morning by four youths, who posed as job seekers and gained entry to his office premises.
The deceased was identified A.P. Abdul Rahman, who was also a DMK functionary. According to the police, the incident happened around 9 am. "Six youths in three bikes reached the office of Abdul Rahman. Two youths waited outside while four went in as if they were looking for a job in his office, from where he conducted his scrap business. Later they pulled out sickles hidden inside the back of the shirt and attacked Abdul Rahman," police said.
After completing their mission, they wiped their sickles with clothes available in the office premise and sped away from the scene. Hearing the commotion some neighbours gathered and they took him to the Kancheepuram GH in ambulance where he was declared dead within 10 minutes, the police said.
Police suspect the killers may be mercenaries hired by some enemy of the DMK man. "We are not sure of the motive was political, personal or business in nature. We are probing all angles," the police said.
