Fire at hotel in Pakistani city of Rawalpindi, no one hurt

It was unclear what caused the fire and authorities are still investigating, says police.

Islamabad: Pakistani police say a fire broke out after midnight at the famous Pearl Continental Hotel in the garrison city of Rawalpindi but no one was hurt.

Local police official Naeem Rabbabi says firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze. He says it was unclear what caused the fire and authorities are still investigating.

Pakistani Geo TV footage showed firefighters using water hoses to extinguish the flames and army trying to rescue people through the windows as smoke billowed out.

The hotel staff refused to share any details when contacted but confirmed that the fire had been extinguished.

Rawalpindi is located near Pakistan's capital city of Islamabad and the Pearl Continental Hotel is one of the main hotels in the city, also popular with foreigners.
