Telangana: I didn’t kill dove, says former DG’s daughter

If I wanted to scare someone, I can hang it at the main entrance.

Hyderabad: Dentist Dr Eunice Chawngthu, who was accused of killing a dove and hanging it on her balcony to “scare” her neighbours, claimed Tuesday that she did not kill it. It was the work of unknown persons who had “trespassed” into her balcony, said the daughter of former DG C. Dothanga.

In a belated response, she lodged a complaint with Banjara Hills police. She said in the complaint that the residents of the next apartment were troubling her from the first day she shifted into the flat nearly 18 months ago. She did not know who the true owner of the flat was, but regularly paid rent to one Parvathi Devi through bank.

Dr Eunice, who is also pursuing graduation in law, said her neighbours had issues with her, she being from another state, and they even attacked her when she did not vacate the house.

It was in 2014 that Dr Eunice, a native of Meghalaya, occupied the flat on the third floor of Shanti Nivas apartment in Banjara Hills. At that time, she met Parvathi Devi, who introduced herself as the owner of the flat. She paid an advance to her. She thereafter started paying the rent through bank transfer.

“From the time I shifted, my neighbours started troubling me. The only reason is I am alone and from another state. I do not see any valid reason for me to vacate the flat,” she said. “I did not kill the bird or hang it in the bedroom balcony. If I wanted to scare someone, I can hang it at the main entrance. Why would I do something at a place which is seen only by the residents of the adjacent apartment,” asked Dr Eunice.

“How can those who kill cats and feed stray dogs get afraid of a small dead bird? There is a language barrier between me and my neighbours. I cannot communicate with them. So, why would I threaten them?” She said the police did not respond to her complaint when she was attacked by her neighbours. Instead, they registered a case against her, she said.

Police clarified that they registered the case against her on a complaint from her neighbours. "Both parties complained against each other. We registered cases based on both complaints," said Banjara Hills inspector Murali Krishna.
