KSEB to launch LED bulb drive
KOZHIKODE: After distributing CFL bulbs during the LDF tenure, KSEB Limited is all set to launch an ambitious Rs 150-crore LED promotion drive in the last week of January. The target: daily savings of 350 MW on peak-hour demand and yearly savings of 400 million units (MU). The slogan for the promotion drive is “Goodbye to Yellow Light”.
The drive will also form the third season of the ‘Labhaprabha’ energy conservation programme. This was announced by Power Minister Aryadan Mohammed here on Tuesday. Modelled on the Centre's Domestic Efficient Lighting Programme (DELP), the ‘Labhaprabha’ LED scheme will enable domestic consumers to buy 9 Watt LED bulbs at Rs 95 per piece - the market value of which is Rs 400. Each household will be supplied with two bulbs. These energy-efficient bulbs will be distributed free of charge to 6 lakh families who consume less than 40 units a month and having a connected load below 1000 watts.
“By replacing a 60 Watt incandescent bulbs and a 20 Watt CFLs with two 9 Watt LED bulbs, it is estimated that a single household can save up to seven units of electricity a month,” power minister Aryadan Mohammed said. For procuring LED at an affordable price, the KSEB has tied up with power sector PSU Energy Efficiency Services Ltd. KSEBL will put in place measures to ensure that all domestic consumers can purchase the bulbs within two months from the sections when they come to remit the electricity bill.
“We expect to distribute 1.50 crore bulbs, including 12 lakh which will be distributed free of cost to eligible consumers,"' KSEBL chairman and managing dirctor M Sivasankar said. At the rate of 25 lakh bulbs a month, the KSEB hopes to complete the distribution by May-June 2016.
