Drinking water meets all standards: Metro water
Chennai: Chennai metro water has clarified that drinking water supplied to consumers meets all the quality standards and subjected to proper treatment in water treatment plants.
An official release said that before supplying water to consumers, the surface water is subjected to proper treatment in water treatment plants at Chembarambakkam, Red Hills, Kilpauk and Vadakuthu (Veeranam).
The clarification has been issued in the wake of reports of water contamination in the reservoirs. It said that metro water ensures the quality of water supplied to the residents of Chennai city by a series of tests and analysis at sources treatment plants, distribution stations and consumer ends across the city. “For this purpose, five teams of mobile laboratory are pressed into service.
Besides, the field officials of metro water tests the quality of water samples on daily basis collected at various locations which includes residences and public fountains,” it said.
The release said that test results of the samples taken from various parts of the city have shown that the water supplied by metro water is of good quality and all the physical, chemical (hydrogen ion concentration, calcium, magnesium, total hardness, chlorides, sulphates, iron, dissolved oxygen) and bacteriological parameters of the quality of water are within the permissible limit. “Therefore, public are advised that there is no cause for concern,” it said. Metro water has resumed piped water supply on daily basis since November 25, 2015, after the storage levels in all the reservoirs have improved in the recent northeast monsoon.
