Swimming for just an hour a week can keep obesity at bay
Obsessing over your calorie count isn’t going to help you reduce those extra pounds. A new study suggests that simply swimming or going for a jog for an hour every week is enough to keep you slim and fit, according to the Daily Mail.
Scientists explain that this is because people who are genetically predisposed towards obesity will not be able to keep their weight in check by dieting or reducing food portion sizes alone. Leading a physically active lifestyle goes a long way in substantially decreasing the genetic effects of major obesity genes.
The study, carried out by a research team from the McMaster University, examined data from around 17,400 people from six ethnic groups – South Asian, East Asian, European, African, Latin American and Native North American for a period of three years. The research team concluded from the study that physical activity plays a major role in reducing obesity than calorie intake.
