Telangana gets time on Owaisi hate talk

Two cases are registered suo motu against Akbaruddin Owaisi for alleged hate speech.

Hyderabad: A division bench of the Hyderabad High Court on Monday granted a week to the Telangana state government to spell out its stand on filing chargesheets in trial courts in Nizamabad and Nirmal regarding hate speech cases against MIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi.

The bench, comprising acting Chief Justice Dilip B. Bhosale and Justice S.V. Bhatt, was dealing with a public interest litigation by city resident Syed Taraq Quadri, seeking a direction to the police to complete the investigation in the FIRs.

Two cases had been registered suo motu on December 8 and 22, 2012 against Mr Owaisi for the alleged hate speech. He was subsequently arrested.

When the Bench asked about the delay in filing chargesheets, the Telangana state counsel urged the bench to grant a week’s time to ascertain the facts from the authorities.
