Surplus AP to sell Telangana 2,000 MW power

Cabinet noted that TS discoms had sought to purchase 2,000 MW from May 27, 2016 to May 25, 2017.
Hyderabad: AP will sell 2,000 MW power to Telangana through the Power Trading Corporation, according to a recent decision of the AP Cabinet.
In the Cabinet note, APTransco informed that distribution companies were anticipating surplus power of 300 to 500 MW each month for the period from June 2016 to May 2017 because of stabilisation of the Krishna-patnam plant, synchronisation of the Hinduja plant, and finalisation of long-term and medium term power purchase agreements from December 2015. The Cabinet noted that Telangana discoms had sought to purchase 2,000 MW from May 27, 2016 to May 25, 2017.
The PTC requested the AP discoms’ willingness to allow it to bid on their behalf to sell the surplus power.
This is the first time that AP Discoms are projected to be in surplus throughout the year, that too without resorting to any short term purchases. AP is the only state in the south to meet its requirements.
