Report on Congressmen’s anti-party activity soon: Siddaramaiah
CM said the KPCC president has been asked to prepare the report on anti-party activity.
Belagavi: Making it clear that the Congress had taken serious note of instances where party leaders had backed Independents and Congress rebels in the just concluded Council polls, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said a report on such leaders was being prepared after which the party would initiate action against them for anti-party activity.
Speaking to reporters at Belagavi airport before leaving for Ramdurg to inaugurate a lift irrigation project on Monday, Mr Siddaramaiah said the KPCC president has been asked to prepare the report on anti-party activity during the MLC elections. He was responding to a question on why several Congress leaders in Belagavi had openly supported Independent candidate Vivekrao Patil instead of Veerkumar Patil, who was the party’s official nominee.
The Congress won 13 of the 20 seats it contested in the polls but lost in strongholds like Kolar, Tumakuru and Mandya besides Belagavi with infighting said to be the reason for the defeats.
Commenting on Kalsa-Banduri issue, Chief Minister said, “We urged the Centre and the Prime Minister to help resolve the Mahadayi issue, but unfortunately, they did not agree to it. Already, an interim application has been submitted to Mahadayi Water Dispute Tribunal to get the issue resolved. All measures which the government can take in its purview have been taken to get the Mahadayi row settled,” he said. Responding to recent statements made by former PM H.D. Deve Gowda that the Siddaramaiah government was most corrupt and such a pathetic government had never existed before in the state, Mr Siddaramaiah said Mr Gowda was giving such statements only because the Janata Dal (Secular) lost the MLC election in Hassan.
Congress loss in kalaburagi LC poll upsets Kharge
Over the defeat of the Congress candidate in the recent elections to the Upper House from Kalaburagi local bodies constituency, Congress leader in the Lok Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge warned people that such results could adversely affect the development of the region as well as the survival of democracy in the country.
Speaking at a function organised at Chittapur town to lay the foundation stone for various developmental works, Mr Kharge, who was quite upset over the result, wondered aloud if this was the reward for someone who had honestly worked for the development of the region? "If a candidate gets defeated despite working sincerely and one can get elected without any achievements by merely spending money, then why would a candidate work for the development of his constituency? Such developments go against the principles of democracy which lay emphasis on the development of the downtrodden. You can get many leaders who can spend money, but it’s difficult to get someone who works honestly for the well being of people ", Mr Kharge observed.
