Errant RTO officials give a tough time to techies

After lunch, a clerk was delegated to the counter after a protest by the applicants.

Hyderabad: Several software professionals and vehicle owners living in the IT corridor have been having a tough time getting services from the office of the Regional Transport Officer (RTO) at Kondapur due to lack of planning and irresponsible officials.

Most software professionals from Kondapur, Kothaguda, Gachibowli, Serilingampally, Madha-pur, Hitec City and Rai-durgam have been criticising the RTO personnel.
An average of 150 vehicle registrations and 200 driving tests are done per day at this office and the number doubles during weekends and on special occasions that are holidays for software professionals but are working days for government employees.

After the New Year holidays, several software engineers and others on Saturday went the RTO office to get their vehicles registered, but they had to wait for hours as there wasn’t adequate staff.

A software engineer from Prashanth Nagar under Kondapur, Mr M. Venkata Ramana, said that he had gone to the office early in order to avoid the rush for registration of his new car.

“As per office timings, officials must come around 10.30 am, but the clerk who deals with registrations at the counter was not there. The queue increased to 250 people in a short time.

“Moreover, there is no shelter or drinking water facility here,” he said.

After 1.30 pm, a clerk was delegated to the counter after a protest by the applicants.

Mr Rafi, the in-charge of the registrations wing, said that due to the absence of a clerk, Mr Ravinder, without prior intimation, applicants had to face a tough time.
“We informed Ranga Reddy DTC and as per directions of higher officials, the process resumed,” he said.

Joint Transport Commissioner (Admin) Mr B. Venkateswarlu said that they would plan to manage the rush on special days.“There are no such situations being faced in holding tests for driving licenses as the tests are being conducted based on online-slots booked by applicants.
