Man kills wife, kids before ending life
Balraj had a shop in LB Nagar area, which he shut nearly three months ago.
Hyderabad: An alleged financial crisis led a couple to commit suicide after the husband killed their twin daughters in Mallepally on Monday. N. Balaraj and his wife N. Surekha committed suicide in their house after giving poison to their 13-month twin daughters Megha and Meghna. When the couple did not come out on Monday morning, Balaraj’s mother and younger brother opened the door and found the bodies of Balaraj, 30, and Surekha, 24, and the children in the room.
Balaraj was into scrap business and Surekha was a housewife. Balraj had a shop in LB Nagar area, which he shut nearly three months ago after incurring losses. He lived with his mother and younger brother in the same flat in the ground floor of a three-storeyed building. Sources said that he borrowed money from different people for developing his business, but incurred losses. As a result, he was depressed. He had no job since he shut his business and was depending on his younger brother N. Prem.
On Sunday, till 11 pm Balaraj was with his friends. Later he came and slept in his room. While his mother and brother slept in one room, he along with his wife and children slept in another room. When the mother and brother opened the door, they saw Balraj hanging from the ceiling by an electric cable, his wife was lying beside the almirah on the floor and the kids were lying on the bed. “He might have mixed the poison in the milk bottle and administered it to the kids and to his wife. After they died, he hanged himself,” said Habeeb Nagar Inspector, R. Sanjay Kumar.
The police team recovered a half-filled milk bottle from the spot. Based on a complaint from Balraj’s brother N. Prem, a murder case (302 IPC) is registered against N. Balraj for the death of his wife and two daughters and a suspicious death (174 CrPC) is registered against his death. Police are investigating.
Both parents loved their twin daughters:
Raju and Sureka who got married nearly five years ago were maternal relatives and never worried about having two daughters. In fact, the kids doubled the family’s joy. Raju’s maternal uncle Narender came home everyday to meet the kids before he went for work. But Monday, when he came, the family was not awake. So he left without seeing them, only to get the news of their death after an hour. Balraj’s father N Venkatesh died in 2008. After that, he was staying with his mother Manemma and younger brother Prem. He married his cousin Surekha in 2010.
After Surekha gave birth to twin daughters 13 months ago, the family celebrated. However, the family’s love towards the kids could not inspire Raju to overcome the financial crisis. His family members said that he was a happy-go-lucky guy and was strong, and they never thought he would take such a painful step over his troubles.
