BCCI president should not hold office for more than two years: Lodha panel
New Delhi: The Supreme Court-mandated Lodha Committee, headed by former CJI RM Lodha, is all set to propose extensive measures to revamp the functioning of BCCI. The panel submitted the report to the apex court on Monday.
The report said there will be two executive bodies – for IPL and non-IPL cricket.
"First thing we did was interact with BCCI officials,all except President and Secretary appeared who responded to questionare," said Justice Lodha.
"Happy to share that whatever discussions we had with Mr Manohar, he immediately put in action," he added.
"We interacted with all stakeholders, six former captains were also consulted," said Justice Lodha on the report.
“We interacted with BCCI office bearers, the governing council of IPL will be entitled to take all decisions, governance should be separate from management," said the report.
"The recommendation is that chief governing body in IPL will be known as governing council, which will comprise nine members. We recommend a steering committee headed by former Home Secretary GK Pillai with Mohinder Amarnath, Diana Eduljee and Anil Kumble."
The report also asserted that the ethics officer will be a former HC judge and there will be an elected officer who will overlook the election work.
No office bearer can hold office consecutively for two terms, there has to be cooling off period. In no case President will hold post of President for more than two years. One person, one post. Also, no proxy voting of individuals," said the report.
"No BCCI office-bearer can hold office for more than three terms with rider that there will be cooling off after each term. Ministers or government officers cannot be office bearers," mentioned Justice Lodha.

— ANI (@ANI_news) January 4, 2016While the recommendations of the committee comprising Justice (Retd) RM Lodha, Justice (Retd) Ashok Bhan and Justice (Retd) R.V. Raveendran, are expected to be targeted towards making the Board more professional more accountable to public, the BCCI will be keenly watching whether the apex court makes the report binding.
It has been suggested that the report would recommend that politicians should not be part of the Board which is run as a society registered under the Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act.
The committee was also asked by the court to examine the role of former IPL chief operating officer Sundar Raman into his activities related to his role in the 2013 IPL corruption scandal.
