TRS victory in Hyderabad is historic necessity, CM tells party men

TRS has been conducting a survey to identify the best candidates for the party.

Hyderabad: Chief Minister and TRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday told his party leaders that it was a historic necessity that the party won the forthcoming GHMC polls since his government aimed to turn Hyderabad into a global city.

Addressing TRS leaders at the Telangana Bhavan on Sunday evening, the Chief Minister said that ever since his government came to power 19 months ago, it made several plans to improve the capital on all aspects and set in motion projects aimed to decongest traffic that has been the main concern of citizens.

“We have to win the GHMC polls on our own, and I hope we will win at least a hundred divisions,” Mr Chandrasekhar Rao said.

As per directions of the Chief Minister, each of the TRS MLAs, MLCs, MPs, ministers and senior party leaders will be entrusted with a division. They will be informed about the division they would be handling by January 5.

Starting January 6 till completion of polling, the leaders should take care of selection of the party’s candidate, campaigning and other poll-related issues. Besides the local party cadre, each division in-charge should identify at least one active party worker for every 1,000 voters in a division who will oversee the party campaign.

The TRS has been conducting a survey to identify the best candidates for the party, and the reports will be tallied with the ground reports prepared by the division in-charge before finalising the candidates.

“Though reservations are there, we should field the best candidates who will be able to win the hearts of people in that particular division. Winnability would be the sole criteria,” the Chief Minister said.

Stressing the importance of victory in GHMC polls, Mr Chandrasekhar Rao said that primarily, the TRS has not concentrated on building its strength since many years and it did not contest the last GHMC polls.

Of the 24 Assembly seats, TRS could win only two in GHMC limits due to this reason, he said. “But now, TRS is very strong even in the capital city which accounts for one-third of the total electorate of Telangana State. We cannot ignore these elections, we have to win and we will win,” Mr Chandrasekhar Rao said.

Former DGP Vijayarama Rao joins TRS with daughter

Former TD minister K. Vijayarama Rao and his daughter Annapurna on Sunday joined the TRS in the presence of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao. Both Mr Vijayarama Rao, a former CBI director, and Annapurna, who is an entrepreneur, reached Telangana Bhavan where the TRS’ extended Legislature Party meeting was on and met Mr Chandrasekhar Rao.

Offering them the pink khanduwas, the Chief Minister formally welcomed them in the TRS. A few weeks ago, Mr Vijayarama Rao had announced he would be parting ways with the TD, a party which he had joined in 1999.
