HCU security guard, coach caught for taking deer meat

Hyderabad: A coach and two security guards working at the Sports Authority of Telangana shooting range located at the Hyderabad Central University were arrested on Sunday for allegedly possessing meat of spotted deer.
Coach Govindaswamy, an ex-serviceman, had allegedly shot the deer when it entered the shooting range and security guard Balu skinned it and chopped the animal into pieces and hid the meat in a small chamber near the security room. Based on a tip-off, police raided the premises and seized about 25 kg of meat. Police also seized the skin, head, hoofs and two knives used for chopping the animal from them. “They chopped the animal and placed it on a polythene bag and hid it in a small chamber near the security room,” said Gachibowli inspector J. Ramesh Kumar. Swamy denied that he had shot the deer and said it had been killed by a dog.
Police took suo motu action and registered a case under Section 51 of the Wildlife Protection Act. The case is under investigation.
