Whitefield police not tech savvy?

Home minister Dr G. Parameshwar has advised them to be more tech savvy.

BENGALURU: Urging the police to live up to the city’s moniker “IT City”, home minister Dr G. Parameshwar has advised them to be more tech savvy. The minister inaugurated four new police stations and police housing quarters in the city on Saturday.

“Bengaluru is a city that the world is watching. People from all over the world come to the city and it is the IT capital of the country. Our policemen need to be able to cope with these changes and should go digital. Considering the city’s “image” in the eyes of the rest of the world, new police stations in the city are being constructed in such a way that this is reflected,” Dr Parameshwar said.

After inaugurating a new building for Jnana Bharathi police station, Dr Parameshwar called on police officers in Whitefield to make more efforts to go digital and ensure that every policeman was comfortable while operating a computer. He also said that every police station should maintain the finger prints of offenders within the station itself, so that they could be identified immediately.

The minister pointed out that the newly inaugurated police housing quarters in Subramanyapura has over 1,000 applications for 40 homes. Dr Parameshwar announced that the government was planning to build 11,000 police housing quarters in the state of which at least 3,000 would be in and around Bengaluru city.

“Policemen are often treated with a lack of respect. But we often do not understand the kind of work they are doing. As Bengaluru expands, we are talking about wider roads, more flyovers and better drains etc. We also need to remember the police stations of the city and the police men,” Dr Parameshwar said. He further thanked the police officers for their efforts in reducing crime in the city.

“Even during the New Year celebration when the deadlines for restaurants and pubs were extended for an entire week till 1 am, and on New Year’s Eve, the police handled thousands of people who had reached MG Road and Brigade Road. We have been able to bring down cases of chain snatching in the recent past. I thank the police for their efforts in not only detecting cases when they happen but also by going after the offenders with a vengeance to their own villages and arresting them,” he added.
