MT Vasudevan Nair laments neglect of Malayalam

Writer expressed happiness over the government.

Kozhikode: Malayalam, the mother tongue of Kerala, is not getting its due importance in educational institution across the state, said Jnanpith award winning author MT Vasudevan Nair.

He was speaking after receiving the AR Raja Raja Varma Award from Chief Minister Oommen Chandy at a function in St. Joseph’s College, Devagiri in Kozhikode on Saturday.

“The educational institutions in Kerala are not teaching Malayalam and the teaching of Malayalam is not up to the standard”,” he said.

The noted writer however expressed happiness over the government passing the Malayalam and the establishment of a university dedicated to Malayalam. “The new generation is still alien to the language,” he said.

Speaking after presenting the award to MT Chief Minister recalled the immense contributions of MT. Ministers K. C. Joseph, MK Muneer and deputy mayor Meera Darshak were also present at the function.
