Kochi Metro Rail receives Metro coaches
Kochi: The first lot of rolling stock of the Kochi Metro Rail was unveiled at Sri City in Andhra Pradesh on Saturday and handed over to the state minister in charge of railways, Mr Aryadan Muhammed, at a function presided over by Union minister Venkaiah Naidu. Huge trailers carrying a set of three coaches proceeded to Kochi on Saturday night and will reach here in ten days.
“The coach construction was completed five months ahead of schedule mentioned in the detailed project report. The trial run of the coaches will be held on January 23 and the trial run on the rail path will take place in the third week of February. Kochi Metro is the fastest completing Metro rail project in the country. We have attained this overcoming the challenges of land acquisition and geographical constraints,” said Mr Hibi Eden MLA, who attended the function held at the coach manufacturer Alstom’s facility.
The Kochi Metro Rail Ltd had placed an order for 25 train sets in August 2014. Dr E. Sreedharan, principal advisor to DMRC, Mr Elias George, KMRL MD, Mr K.V. Thomas MP, Mr Mangu Singh, DMRC managing director and Mr Bharat Salhotra, managing director of Alstom India, were among those who attended the event.
