Knowledge will drive 21st century: Narendra Modi

‘Those who have more info and those who can innovate and think ahead of time can alone survive’.

Mysuru: “The strength of a country in the 21st Century is measured by neither money power nor military power, but by the power of knowledge. Those who have more information and knowledge and those who can innovate and think ahead of time can alone survive in the 21st century,” said Prime Minister Narendra Modi here on Saturday evening.

Inaugurating the centenary birth celebrations of Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Swami of Suttur Math, he lauded the efforts of Suttur Math in imparting knowledge to support innovation. He also unveiled the Knowledge Resource Centre for Science and Technology in Suttur.

As he began his speech with a greeting “Bandhu Baginiyare nimagella nanna Namaskaragalu”, the 40,000-strong crowd cheered. Highlighting the contribution of saints, thinkers and maths in imparting knowledge leading to innovation and working for the welfare of society, he said, “The spiritual revolution of 18th and 19th century ignited the conscience of the people of India and inspired Mahatma Gandhi to make India free. I was privileged to unveil the statue of Sri Basaveswara in London. Basavanna, a social reformer, proved the power of grassroots level democracy.”

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, lauding the contributions of JSS Math in imparting education to 50,000 students, especially rural children, said, “Maths should strive to remove ignorance and superstitions from society and propagate scientific and rational thinking.”

Governor Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala, Union Ministers Siddeshwara, Ananthkumar and D.V. Sadanand Gowda, BJP leaders Jagadish Shettar and B.S. Yeddyurappa participated.

Youngster runs in front of PM’s car

A young man reportedly came in way of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s car near Kautilya Circle here when he was proceeding towards Lalit Mahal Palace amid tight security. The youngster was said to be among the crowd watching the PM’s convoy. He, however, managed to escape from the police. The police claimed that he was just a fan of Mr Modi. But, BJP members alleged that it was a breach of security and protested for a while.

n Prime Minister Narendra Modi held meeting with 11 core committee members of the BJP, including Sadananda gowda, Yeddyurappa, Ananthkumar, and Siddeswar at Lalit Mahal Palace hotel. He is said to have discussed the state unit leadership and party’s performance in Council elections, among others.
