Kin of 1984 riots victims meet Arun Jaitley, demand compensation

Families of the victims claimed Centre did not release compensation since 1985.

New Delhi: Families of the victims of 1984 anti-Sikh riots from Punjab on Sunday met Finance Minister Arun Jaitley here and demanded that their due compensation be released and the rehabilitation measures that had been announced for them be implemented.

"Punjab government had decided in 1985 to release compensation, rehabilitate and restore the confidence of the victim families but the decision has not been implemented till date and families are still suffering," Sikh Sangat General Secretary Avinash Jaiswal said.

"We met the minister at his residence and submitted him a memorandum of demands that the compensation be released to the victim families and the measures for rehabilitation that were promised be carried out," he added.
