Telangana GHMC polls: Ministers race to catch voters’ eye
Hyderabad: TS ministers, especially those leading the TRS campaign for the GHMC polls, are literally racing against time. While Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has been announcing sop after sop for all sections of the people, especially the GHMC voters, panchayat raj minister K.T. Rama Rao, who is spearheading the TRS campaign, Deputy CM Mahmood Ali and ministers T. Padma Rao, T. Srinivas Yadav and Nayani Narasimha Reddy, along with party leaders, are laying foundation stones, taking part in inaugurations and making announcements since the past two months.
If TRS leaders are to be believed, they have already hit a “century” of foundation stones and inaugurations of various schemes, especially civic amenities like drinking water, roads, drainage, and electricity and of course, the 2BHK housing scheme.
Mr Yadav is leading the ministers in taking part in the maximum number of programmes, followed by Mr Padma Rao. “We want to complete programmes pertaining to laying of foundation stones and inaugurations before announcement of the poll schedule since the election code will come into effect. SEC’s announcement on reservation of wards will herald the beginning of the election process which will be followed by schedule,” a senior TRS leader told this newspaper.
Union minister Bandaru Dattatreya too has launched several Central government schemes pertaining to this department. Amidst skirmishes between rival parties, assaults and heated exchanges including one between transport minister P. Mahender Reddy and TD MLA Gandhi, the programmes continue unabated.
Mr Mahender Reddy inaugurated a scheme for laying of a 272-km drinking water pipeline at Serilingampally in Chandanagar. The event was marred by heated exchanges between the minister and the local MLA.
