Hyderabad: More than 1,000 persons were caught during the drunken driving operation across Hyderabad and Cyberabad areas on New Year’s Eve. Police sighed in relief as there were no fatal accidents during the celebrations. Special forces were deployed at various locations to avert untoward incidents.
Hyderabad and Cyberabad police took precautions to avoid incidents by deploying additional forces from various wings of the police. Teams started checking vehicles from 11 pm and it went on till around 1.30 am on Friday.
Hyderabad saw an increase with 156 more cases registered compared to 2014, while Cyberabad saw a slight increase of around 30 cases. Officials said that precautionary measures from event organizers and even party goers also minimised the effect.
“Many party goers, who were drunk, preferred to take cabs or to go with friends who were not drunk. This step avoided trouble,” said Cyberabad Traffic DCP, Avinash Mohanty. Besides the force deployment andother preventive measures, people’s cooperation also helped avoid incidents.
