MLA ‘harassment’: Corporator resigns
Mayor’s effort to convince her and discuss the issue outside the council did not help.
BENGALURU: High drama prevailed in the BBMP council meeting when HMT ward corporator Asha Suresh of Congress party levelled allegations of harassment by her party MLA Munirathna Naidu (Rajarajeshwarinagar) for the last three years and tendered her resignation to Mayor Manjunath Reddy.
She alleged that Naidu had ensured that no engineering work and grants reached her ward and the MLA even threatened her family. Mayor’s effort to convince her and discuss the issue outside the council did not help. Meanwhile, corporators from BJP supported Asha and demanded she be given a chance. A BJP corporator Mamatha Vasudev from JP Park ward too raised allegations against Naidu. The council was subsequently adjourned till 2.30 pm. Later, ruling party leader R. S. Satyanarayana said that Asha’s resignation letter will not be accepted and she will be persuaded to withdraw it. A meeting will be convened under the leadership of city development minister K. J. George, Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy and Mayor, which will be attended by Naidu and Asha.
