Fog may delay arrival, departure of trains

Senior officials said the delay would be between 5 am and 7 am and between 6 pm and midnight.

Chennai: In view of night temperatures dipping sharply leading to fog formation in areas surrounding railway tracks in certain stations in Chennai division, railway officials have said there may be delays in express and EMU trains arriving and departing Chennai in the days to come.

Senior officials said the delay would be between 5 am and 7 am and between 6 pm and midnight, and added that passengers travelling during this slot may incur delays in arrival or departure.

They said the delay could be for a maximum of 25 to 30 minutes at stations between Katpadi and Jolarpet and near stations such as Nellore, Vijayawada, Bapatla and Chirala in AP. “In stations near hilly areas, the temperature dips to 20 to 21 degrees due to which there are problems of visibility. If the situation persists, we have asked them (drivers) not to continue moving from the station,” said an official in the operations department.

At present, there are 13 express trains which arrive Chennai central between 5 am and 7 am.
