Stage set for AIADMK general council meet
Chennai: All roads lead to Tiruvanmiyur for the AIADMK general council meeting on Thursday. The area is getting spruced up for the mega political event, where AIADMK supremo J. Jayalalithaa is to expected to indicate her party strategy for the Assembly elections.
Senior ministers and party MLAs were seen hyper active making sorties near the venue erecting flex boards and banners of all hue and size. The extravaganza was such that pedestrians could not use footpaths.
According to AIADMK sources, Jayalalithaa will arrive at the venue by 10.30 a.m. and the meeting will end before noon. The party is to discuss the alliance for the Assembly polls and campaign strategies, including preparation of poll manifesto. Party functionaries from other districts and MLAs have already reached Chennai, sources added.
Meanwhile, Chennai corporation has pressed additional staff to clean Tiruvanmiyur, including Kamarajar Salai, LB Road and a portion of ECR. The bus route roads department has pressed into service additional contractors and the entire locality has now got new roads giving it a festive look.
Roadside kerb stones, parks and street lights in the area have been repaired. The highways department has spruced up the ECR. Hundreds of invitees, including AIADMK MPs, MLAs, ministers, district secretaries, headquarters officer-bearers and those belonging to 14 allied organisations are to attend the event.
